Project Details

Standish Nursery is a pioneering intergenerational early-years setting nestled within the grounds of Standish Care Village. Conceived as a forest-led nursery embedded in a mature woodland overlooking Worthington Lakes, the project brings children and elderly residents together in a shared landscape of learning, care and connection.

Its distinctive octagonal architecture sits lightly within the trees, maximising natural daylight, ventilation and views across the lake while creating sheltered, child-scaled outdoor spaces that blur the boundary between inside and out. The building is wrapped in a striking green timber facade that blends seamlessly with its forest backdrop and will mature with the landscape over time.

The architecture champions low-carbon construction, biodiverse planting and passive environmental strategies, rooted in forest school principles. The nursery uses the surrounding woodland as an extended classroom, fostering sensory exploration, resilience and environmental awareness. As part of a progressive care village model, the project redefines community infrastructure - positioning the nest as a catalyst for intergenerational exchange, wellbeing and long-term sustainability.
